Eng. Mohammed Gheyath, Executive Director Technology Development Affairs, The UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA)

Eng. Mohammed Gheyath graduated from Etisalat College of Engineering in 1997 and joined the only telecom operator in the UAE at that time, the Emirates Telecommunications Corporation (Etisalat), followed by Thuraya Satellite Telecommunication Company (Thuraya), where he held a number of positions after being seconded for technical support to be responsible for many tasks in the fields of Satellite Communications, Radio Microwaves and Cable Transmission.

In 2001, he joined the Mobile Development Department in Etisalat and was in charge of Mobile Network Planning and Optimization of the Northern Emirates, covering Sharjah, Ajman, Um Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaima and Fujairah. He led the team that introduced the 3rd Generation Mobile Network in the Northern Emirates and was a member of the committee that submitted a bid for the second mobile operator in Saudi Arabia, which resulted in a license and the formation of the company Mobily.

In January 2005, Eng. Mohammed joined the UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) as the Head of Technical Affairs Department. The Technical Affairs Department is considered one of the main driving machines of the TRA in its pursue for the future development of the Information and Communications Technology Sector in the UAE.

Ahmad Almulla, VP-IT, DUBAL

An executive with extensive experience in the field of I.T. for over 20 years, Almulla received his Bachelor of Science from The University of Arizona in Computer Engineering in the year 1987 and completed his Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Australia in the year 1993. He also completed the Program for Executive Development from International Institute for Management Development (IMD). Almulla has been working in all the areas in Information Technology department such as Application Development, Information Security, Architecture Designing and Networking, Process Control, etc. He started his career as a Programmer in 1988 in Dubai Aluminium Company Limited, and is currently the VP of IT and the Chief Information Officer of Dubai Aluminium Company Limited. He is also a member of the Executive Management Committee in DUBAL.

Dr. Mustafa H. Qurban, Director of the Computer Department, King Fahd Military Medical Complex, KSA

Dr Qurban currently works as Computer Consultant and Director of Computer Department at KFMMC, Dhahran, KSA and is an executive with wide industry experience. His key research interests include Information Security, E-Health, E-learning, Self-Education and learning, IT strategic planning, Business Process Re-engineering, Software Engineering Project Management practice, and Computer Networking Design and implementation.



Eng Meshal Abdulla Binhussain, aeCERT Operations Manager

With 10 years of hands-on experience in Information Security, Eng Meshal is leading the cyber-security incident handling across the UAE government as well as all sectors. His wide expertise in the information Security field has enabled him to continuously progress and contribute tremendously in this subject of matter. Eng Meshal is an active member in multiple information security committees and taskforces.Prior to joining the aeCERT, Meshal was the Director of Information Security at the Naturalization & Residency Administration-Dubai (DNRD), where he built and founded the Information Security department and set the policies, procedures and standards, in addition to the complete laying out plans for information security development. He also played a strategic role in major projects in the areas of Border Security and Biometrics.

Meshal started his career in ETISALAT as an Internet Security Engineer at ETISALAT. He received his Bachelor in Communications Engineering B.Sc. (Honors) from Khalifa University of Science, Technology & Research (KUSTAR), and is currently pursuing a Masters degree in Information Security from the same university.



Emad Khatib, CIO, Emcredit

Emad Khatib works on aligning overall IT corporate strategy and establishing the IT department to advance the company in developing a consumer and commercial financial information system. Khatib provides technology vision and leadership in the development and implementation of information technology programs and services. He has over 23 years of US and international experience in the information technology, management consulting and engineering. He has extensive experience in system implementations, solution architecture and management. Khatib is a US citizen and has a Master’s degree in Systems Analysis and Management from George Washington University and a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from the University of Wisconsin. He is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and a Professional Engineer (PE).


Bharat Raigangar, Country Head Security & Fraud (Risk)- Business Services, Middle East & South Africa, Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS)

Bharat is a Certified Fraud Examiner, Certified Information Security Manager & Certified Forensics Accounting Professional with over 18 years of experience in the field of Security, Fraud Prevention & Detection, Compliance and Technology. He has worked in various positions across organisations including ABN Amro, HSBC, NBF and Alpha Data. Bharat is also the Vice President of the UAE Chapter of ISACA and ACFE.


Hossam Elkobrosy, Head of IT Infrastructure and IT Security Operations, National Bank of Abu Dhabi

Hossam Elkobrosy currently serves as Head of IT Infrastructure in National Bank of Abu Dhabi, leads the teams responsible to deliver infrastructure services and platforms that are flexible, high available and secured while mapped to the business need. This includes systems hardware and software, networks’ data and voice, databases, storage and IT operations. Kobrosy is also responsible for the IT security operations. In addition, Kobrosy oversees the bank IT infrastructure in Egypt, Oman, London and other international branches. Kobrosy has delivered technical and security content at various technical conferences, such as VoIP world, IPv6 and eSecurity forums. Kobrosy hold a master’s degree in information technology and a bachelor’s degree in electronics and communication Engineering from Alexandria University in Egypt. In addition, he holds master’s degree in business administration from Strathclyde University.


Viji Mohan, Vice President, Head of Information Security, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank

Viji Mohan has over 15 years of Information Security experience in banking industry. He has worked with leading Banks in the Middle East such as National Bank of Kuwait and Ahli United Bank in Bahrain and holds certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CEH etc. Viji also comes with has extensive experience in compliance standards such as PCI-DSS, ISO 27001 and risk management.

Rohit Dhamankar, Director, DVLabs

Rohit Dhamankar is the Director of Security Research at TippingPoint, where he leads the Digital Vaccine group. His group is responsible for developing protection filters to address vulnerabilities, viruses, worms, Trojans, P2P, spyware, and other applications to incorporate them into TippingPoint's intrusion prevention systems. He also co-authors the weekly SANS Institutes's @RISK newsletter, which ranks the severity level of new vulnerabilities and is sent to over 200,000 subscribers. Rohit is also the Director for the SANS Top-20 Internet Security Attack Target project.

Prior to TippingPoint, Rohit was employed at Cisco Systems, where he worked as a software developer for Cisco's Secure Intrusion Detection System and Cisco Secure Scanner. He is a frequent speaker at security conferences, and holds an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from UT, Austin and an M.Sc in Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology in Kanpur, India.

Tariq Abdulghaffar Mohammad Al Hawi, Director, aeCERT

Tariq Al Hawi is responsible for overseeing the planning, development and execution of all CERT related activities such as operations, research and analysis, security quality services and information security education and awareness in the UAE. One of his strategic goals was to build a team of national expertise in the field of information security by designing a complete training development program for all staff in different domains of information security. So far, he has lead three national awareness programs, one for introducing aeCERT services to its constituents to sustain a resilient and vigilant ICT infrastructure against a broader set of cyber security threats, one targeting schools and universities students to build a more secure and safer cyber culture in the country, and finally introducing “SALIM”, a character representing aeCERT and providing information security tips for the general public.

Prior to joining aeCERT, Tariq served for 10 years as manager security operations and maintenance in Emirates Telecommunication Corporation (Etisalat). There, he implemented a full security strategy for the ISP. The author of several papers for information security-related publications, Tariq has conducted seminars and served as a keynote speaker at many national and international information security conferences. He was also recognised by Dubai Police for his contribution in solving many computer crimes in the past decade.

Tariq has a Bachelor in Computer Engineering from Khalifa University, where he also undertook his Masters of philosophy in information security in the field of steganography. He created a system to monitor online exchange of stago-images using three different approaches including the statistical analysis stego.



Khalid N Sadiq Al-Hashmi, Cyber Safety and Security Executive Director, Q-CERT

Khalid Al-Hashimi has more than 14 years of experience in the Information Technology field, with particular expertise in cyber security, information infrastructure and ICT systems planning. In his role as Executive Director for Cyber Safety & Security, Qatar’s National Program that safeguards the country’s information and communications systems, Khalid leads a team that works closely with government agencies, financial institutions, energy sector, businesses, and citizens to address cyber security risks, protect sensitive information, and ensure the safety of children on the Internet.

Khalid has been instrumental in the development of a national strategy for cyber security, focusing first on critical sector services within the country and played an imperative role to establish GCC CERT Committee and was appointed chairman for the 1st year; the committee addresses cyber security threats in the Gulf region.

Prior to joining ictQATAR, Khalid worked as the IT Operation & Support/Security Manager for the 2006 Asian Games in Doha where he was in charge of the overall planning and execution of IT operations for the event. He is an active member of the Qatar Armed Forces and served as an IT Manager for the Armed Forces before being seconded to his government positions.

A Qatari citizen, Khalid holds a Master of Science from the University of Michigan (Michigan, USA) and a Bachelor of Computer Science from Ohio University (Ohio, USA).



Eng. Badar Ali Al-Salehi, Director Oman National CERT, Information Technology Authority (ITA)

Al-Salehi is the Director of Oman National CERT which is one of the e-Oman national initiatives aiming at addressing cyber security risks, building local cyber security capabilities within the sultanate of Oman, building cyber security awareness amongst public and private sector organisations, critical national infrastructure and key industries as well as within the general public and ICT users.

He joined ITA at the early establishment of this Authority in 2006 and since then he has been working in different national information security and critical infrastructure related projects. He is representing ITA /Oman National CERT by being a member of different regional and international forums and committees including GCC CERT and OIC-CERT and he is the Oman CERT representative for the Forum of incident response and security team (FIRST).

Before joining ITA, Al-Salehi was the in charge of the IT operation as his last role at the Sultan Qaboos University Hospital looking after the IT networks and applications infrastructure and information security for the critical health care and information systems in the hospital. Prior to that, he was working for the Municipality of Muscat looking after the network and information security. He has initiated and introduced the first project in Oman for implementing an information Security management system (ISMS) as per the standard (BS7799) in 2002 for the municipality.

He holds a B Eng degree in computer systems engineering from the University of Kent in the UK. He is also is a certified information security manager (CISM), certified ethical hacker (CEH), certified Microsoft system engineer (MCSE), certified Microsoft system administrator (MCSA) and certified Microsoft professional (MCP).

Kamran Ahsan, Portfolio Architect, Managed Information Security Services, Injazat Data Systems

Kamran Ahsan 15 years of professional experience primarily focussed on Information Security. He currently is spearheading the strategic direction-setting and development of managed security services hosted by the region’s first Tier IV design-certified Injazat Data Centre.

Prior to his current post, Ahsan worked as an Information Security Officer for Injazat. He was responsible for delivering the Injazat Information Security Policy and Risk Assessment framework which was successfully used as a benchmark for assessing the information security status of Injazat’s SMB and Enterprise accounts.

Kamran has also held information security architect positions in Canada’s government sector, where he successfully delivered assignments on security policy, processes and standards, risk assessment, security architecture development, and security education for various government businesses.

Kamran earned a Masters in Applied Science (MASc.) degree from the University of Toronto in 2002. His thesis and research publications identified a novel way of assuring security in the TCP/IP protocol suite. He also holds professional certifications in ISO (ISO 27001 Lead Auditor) and the IT Governance Framework (COBIT).

Speaker: Mustafa Mahmoud, Oracle Middle East

Leading a team of 23 people across Middle East & Africa within both oil & gas and retail production, and manufacturing Industries, Alaa is an executive specialised in security products, databases, infrastructure, and enterprise management and brings with him an extensive IT background, with more than 25 years in the IT field. He's been with Oracle since 1994 prior to which he spent 13 years with the support organisation within Oracle. Currently, Alaa is focused on designing and writing architectures for customers to best fit their needs.

Priya Sirwani, IT Risk Manager, Emirates Group

Priya has been working with Emirates Group for more than 7 years in various roles within the Security & Risk Management domain. Apart from being a key member in the definition and implementation of security policies and assurance framework for the Group, she has been instrumental in defining and embedding Risk Management within Emirates Group–IT. She has also had extensive participation in the Group’s compliance initiatives towards PCI DSS, ISO27001 as well as SAS70.

With more than 10 years experience in the field of Information Security and Risk, Priya is a certified security professional with industry recognized certifications including CISA, CISM & CISSP. She has completed a Masters degree in Computer Applications from Gujarat University, India and also has also obtained the Diploma in Aviation Security from Edith Cowan University, Australia.

Eng. Ahmad Hassan, aeCERT Monitoring and Response Team Leader

Eng. Ahmad has over six years of hands-on experience in Information Security and is leading the Threat Intelligence Operations Center at aeCERT. He is also the founder and leader of the UAE Honeynet Chapter. His diverse interests within Information Security field enabled him to gain experience in many security specialties.

Eng. Ahmad is an active member in several committees and working groups, such as the global Honeynet Project, the Antiphishing Working Group and International Multilateral Partnership Against Cyber Threats (IMPACT Alliance). He speaks occasionally in national and international events and conferences. He also conducts security awareness sessions across the country, as part of the National Outreach Program.

Prior to joining the aeCERT, Ahmad was leading the Enterprise Network Security in Etisalat, where he started his career as a Network Security Engineer in the Internet Operations Department. His duties included securing the Internet Infrastructure in the country. He also worked on several key projects, such as the e-Government project and the Geographical Highly Available Infrastructure. From the enterprise perspective, Ahmad was responsible to secure the Next Generation and Mobile related services in the corporation.

Eng. Ahmad has a Bachelor in Computer Engineering, B.sc (Honors) from Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research (KUSTAR).



Mohammed Shah, Vice President Technology Infrastructure & Services, Knowledge Economic City Developer, KSA

Mohammed is a recognised IT executive with over 15 years experience in leading edge IT and change implementation in the Middle East in areas of IT Strategy, Smart City IT, ERP, DSS, IT Outsourcing & transforming IT into a Profit Centre. Acclaimed as an agent of change with a track-record of successfully implementing complex IT and change projects to a reference site standard meeting challenging deadlines on time and in budget. He is currently architecting the Smart City IT infrastructure for the region's knowledge-based industries hub in KSA.



Guruswamy Periyasamy, Manager - IT Security & Specialist Services, Emirates Group IT

Guruswamy has been working with the Emirates Group IT for 11 years during which he has moved through a variety of roles primarily managing IT projects for different Emirates Group business areas. After managing projects for business domains such as Commercial & Planning, Customer Loyalty, Flight Operations and IT, Guruswamy now heads up IT Security for the Emirates Group. He is primarily responsible for delivering information security and management strategies to maintain it as well as ensure security compliance of information systems within the Emirates Group.

He also heads up the Innovation program for Emirates Group IT besides being responsible for delivering other specialist IT services such as graphics and document management solutions.



Abdullah Al-Attas, Head of IT, SAMACO KSA

In his role, Al-Attas is responsible for both managing the quality and process reengineering. Abdullah has more than nine years of experience as an agent of change with a track record of successfully implementing complex IT and change projects to a reference site standard meeting challenging deadlines on time and in budget. Among other responsibilities, he used to manage creative and innovative team that led his organization to get a competitive advantage in today 2.0 eras and is actively involved other aspects of business development. Abdullah is currently working with his team to develop, implement and deploy an efficient strategy that will be the benchmark for today interactive and social network between business and customers.


Lorna Trayan, Senior Information Security Specialist, IBM Internet Security Systems CEEMEA

Lorna got her B.Sc. in Communications and Electronics Engineering from Ain Shams University, Cairo-Egypt; Computer Networks Diploma from Information Technology Institute (ITI), Cairo - Egypt; M.Sc. in Information Technology and Security from University of Nottingham, Nottingham-UK. Lorna joined Internet Security Systems (ISS)- ME in December 2003 after almost two years extensive experience in the network arena. She started as a Security Engineer for the North Gulf region. In 2004, she was promoted to Technical Manager of the South Gulf Region. Since then, she has been responsible for all technical related activities in the region and moved on to cover the GCC region. After the IBM acquisition of Internet Security Systems, she smoothly transitioned into the IBM security environment as a Senior Information Security Specialist for IBM Internet Security Systems. She is now responsible for the IBM Security Services covering CEEMEA.


Saeed Belhoul, Information Security Head, Dubai Islamic Bank

Saeed Belhoul has worked in the IT and Information Security field for more than 9 years mainly in the financial sector. He is currently the Head of Information Security in Dubai Islamic Bank. He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).

Ragy Magdy has been in the information Technology industry for the past 11 years.He started his career in Security Sales & Marketing in the year 2003 with ISS ( Internet Security Systems) With ISS he was the Business Development Manager for Egypt & Levant.Then he was moved to be ISS Country Manager for UAE & Oman.Since the IBM acquisition of ISS in 2006, Ragy is spearheading IBM Security & Privacy practice for Gulf & Pakistan.Currently Ragy is the Sales Manager for IBM Security Services , for MENA region.During his tenure, he was able to develop the ME market for infosec, and enabled major corporations and government entities in the region to combat cyber threats.

Hariharan Iyer (Hari) has been working in the Middle East banking and finance industry from 1995 and comes with more than 16 years of experience in the information systems and technology industry. His professional interests span segments like Information security, Business Continuity Management and Technology Risk management and he has spent the last 12 years of his career on Information Risk management and Continuity/Control/architecture reviews/deployments. Hari is currently pursuing his Doctorate in Information security and Technology after completing Master in Information Technology and Bachelor of Computer Engineering and has various memberships in information security and Business continuity forums.




Hazem Awni Jarrar, CIO, The King Faisal Foundation, KSA

As Chief Information Officer, Hazem has built a responsive IT organization that consistently delivers results by aligning technology initiatives with business goals, with substantial improvement to service delivery, standardization, and business/systems performance. With reputation for judicious use of resources – and resulting cost containment – Hazem’s work has been instrumental in providing The King Faisal Foundation with leading Internet, database, and management reporting capabilities critical to the success of business activities and performance. In addition, He has effectively raised ICT’s visibility within the Foundation by bridging technology decisions and issues to the forefront of crucial executive discussions.

Hazem is a motivated achiever with 20+ years of significant progressive and broad experience in Information & Communication Technology. His career includes leadership roles at the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) where he was recruited as an Analyst/Programmer and led complex systems implementations and application development projects. At Citibank N.A., in Amman, Jordan, Hazem held the post of a Network Assistant where his assignments involved researching the operation, analyzing requirements and defining processes and procedures in this high value transaction environment. Hazem holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems from Yarmouk University in Irbid, Jordan, and maintains active membership in the CIO Technology Executive Network, the Working Council of CIOs, and the Jordanian Computer Science Society.



Abdulrahman Alonaizan, Assistant General Manager and Head of Business Continuity Management, Arab National Bank, Saudi Arabia

Abdulrahman is an executive with 20 years experience in the banking sector. In his previous role as the Head of Telecommunications, Head of Computer Operations & Data Center, AlOnaizan lead Arab National Bank for ISO9000 Certification. He has also managed the Business Continuity Center for the bank which was awarded by BCI-UK as bring the State of the Art. Abdulrahman has been the recipient of many industry awards including Business Continuity Manager of the year 2008 from CIR Magazine and Business Continuity Manager of the year 2008 from BCP ASIA. In addition, he was nominated as one of the judges for the 2009 Business Continuity Awards held in UK. He was also selected among the CIO TOP 20 list for 2009 in the Middle East.


Vishwanath Nair, Emirates Group IT Continuity Manager

Vishwanath Nair is a CISA CISM & CBCP with more than 13years of experience in the area of Information Security and Risk Management. He has been with Emirates Group IT for nearly 3 years as its IT Continuity Manager and is responsible for framing, implementing and managing the IT Continuity and Availability processes. He has worked in multiple industries including FMCG, IT Services, Consulting, Manufacturing and Aviation. In his previous roles in the industry he has been responsible for Information Security Risk management & governance for business units. He was also involved as part of Global SOX audit and controls management team for a steel manufacturing conglomerate.


Saeed Belhoul, Information Security Head, Dubai Islamic Bank

Saeed Belhoul has worked in the IT and Information Security field for more than 9 years mainly in the financial sector. He is currently the Head of Information Security in Dubai Islamic Bank. He is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP).

Sonia Singh, BC/DR Consultant Specialist, Injazat Data Systems

Sonia Singh has over a decade of relevant work experience practicing Business Continuity, IT Disaster Recovery, Crisis Management and IT Risk. With experience in Banking & Financial Services, IT, IT Enabled Services (ITES), Business Process Consulting & Outsourcing organizations. Her educational qualifications consist of a B.Tech & an MBA and industry affiliations consist of SBCI, CBCP, ITIL foundation certified & ISO27001 Lead Auditor.

She has successfully managed Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery for leading international organizations including, UK government utility service provider; Government owned parcel force worldwide and general logistics systems; UK's leading hospitality company; US mobile and network provider; leading UK based providers of water and wastewater services; leading Asian Bank; other IT providers based out of Australia.

She is currently employed at Injazat Data Systems as a Business Continuity & Disaster Recovery Consultant Specialist part of the Consulting Services team. Previously Sonia was the BCP/DRP & IT Risk Manager in First Gulf Bank and prior to her role at the bank, she was part of the Business Continuity Services team with Computer Science Corporation (CSC).

Sonia has been active in Industry forums; she is the only female candidate to be a part of the BCP Middle-East forum a group consisting of over 90+ members across the region. She has been nominee for the Business Continuity Award by Asia Business Continuity Awards in Singapore in 2006 and has a Published Case Study on Pandemic Planning on Computer Science Corporation (CSC) official site in 2006 under Innovations at Work.
